How to Prevent Eye Wrinkles by Reducing Repetitive Facial Expressions

I saw a great comic strip about eye wrinkles in the newspaper this weekend.  It was in “Zits” by Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman.  A teenage girl was complaining to her friends about homework, but she was verbalizing her facial expressions instead of showing them on her face.  When her friends asked her why she was narrating her expressions, she responded that she wasn’t going to let homework give her wrinkles.

It is true that frequent facial movements can eventually create lines, but of course this shouldn’t stop you from outwardly expressing your emotions.  There are ways to prevent eye wrinkles caused by repetitive facial expressions.  If your work requires a lot of time in front of a computer, sometimes you don’t realize how much you furrow your brows and squint at the screen.  Try to take a few breaks throughout the day and get away from the computer.  Even if it’s for two minutes, get up and go get a drink of water, and give your eyes a rest.  The next time you’re focusing hard on a certain task, be aware of your facial expression, and make a conscious effort to relax your facial muscles more.

Another great way to reduce the repetitive facial expressions that cause eye wrinkles is to wear sunglasses regularly all year round.  Not only does the sun damage the skin and cause wrinkles, but it also causes you to squint more, leading to those ugly crows’ feet.  A good pair of sunglasses will protect your skin from harmful UV rays and block the sun’s glare.  Here is an example of an effective – and stylish – pair of sunglasses:

Physician Endorsed Sunglasses – Urban Jungle
These sunglasses protect the eyes and skin around the eyes from premature aging and the sun’s damaging rays.  These sunglasses contain maximum UVA and UVB protection from the sun, and the frames are wide enough to cover a large area around the eye.  At $35, these are an affordable and valuable addition to your skin care routine.
