Resolutions for a Youthful New Year

Let’s be honest: New Year’s resolutions are great intentions, but how many people actually keep them?  Make 2009 the year to make achievable goals, and start with a resolution to take better care of yourself.  When you’re good to your body, your body is good to you.  Meaning, you’ll keep eye wrinkles away longer, have more energy and appear more youthful in general.  Taking better care of yourself doesn’t necessarily mean resolving to go to the gym every day or lose 50 pounds.  While these are nice intentions, let’s think a little more realistically.  Here are a few easy things you can do to take better care of yourself in 2009:

Drink more water.  This not only improves the quality of your skin, but it is also a great weight loss tip.  So, if you’ve put on a few pounds this holiday season like yours truly, then this resolution should be at the top of your list.  Drink a glass of water before eating a meal and you’ll find yourself eating less.

Go for a walk.  Park your car a little further away at the grocery store.  Take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Any exercise can help your skin, among many other health benefits.  Exercise not only burns calories, but also improves circulation, which helps to bring oxygen and nutrients to your skin.

Ditch your old moisturizer and get one with sunscreen in it.  Pick one with an SPF of at least 15.  This one simple change will both protect you from skin cancer and delay the signs of aging.

Treat yourself to a new pair of sunglasses and wear them regularly.  Sunglasses help prevent eye wrinkles and protect the delicate skin around your eyes from damaging UV rays.  Plus, who doesn’t look cool in sunglasses?

Here’s to a more youthful you in the New Year!
